April M. Weir-Hauptman attended the University of Pittsburgh for her undergraduate education. There, she performed research in the Cell Biology and Physiology Department of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center under the guidance of Dr. Robert Bridges. Her research focused on the molecular biology of epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) and its role in Cystic Fibrosis. April graduated in 2005 from the University of Pittsburgh with an ACS-certified Bachelors Degree in Chemistry with a focus on Biological Sciences.

Following undergraduate education, April attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Biochemistry department for her graduate work. There, she researched human embryonic stem cell signaling by using synthetic ligands to mimic cell signaling events and to find bioactive peptides that cause either differentiation or proliferation. April graduated with her Master’s of Science degree in Biochemistry in 2007.

April joined Stemina Biomarker Discovery in 2007 as the Cell Biologist and Biochemist. Her responsibilities include maintaining the human embryonic stem cell lines, performing cell culture experiments, and writing grants.
